Regardless of the texture, color or length, everyone wants healthy hair. I have spent years looking for products and habits that would help my hair maintain its health. After years of trying out new products, I have achieved my goal of healthy hair. Both my friends and hairdresser comment on the heath of my hair. My journey started my freshman year of high school when I noticed at most of my hair was dead ends. At the time, it was the longest it had ever been in my life. I constantly caught myself picking at split ends, which seemed to be one every hair.
One of the roots to this issue was the lack of normal trims. I never saw the need to go to my hairdresser to cut half an inch off, so I decided to save my money and hair length. However that half inch every other month is crucial. My freshman year I cut 5-6 inches off of my hair to give it a fresh start. This step was imperative to my healthy hair journey. Throughout high school, my hair ranged in lengths because I would often cut it to donate to cancer patients at my school's annual Relay for Life event. Normal haircuts help keep you hair healthy and beautiful.
Now, let's talk hair dye. Dying hair is common trend lately, and I do not expect you to not dye your hair. In middle school, I attempted to Kool-aid my hair red, but since my hair is so dark, it just gave my hair an ombre effect. This lighter color emphasized my unhealthy hair. I cut it off, but still noticed that my hair naturally got lighter at the ends. Regular haircuts keep this at bay. After my high school graduation, I chopped my hair to my shoulders and dyed it to my natural dark brown color. I wanted the color of my hair to be uniform. For me, I have found that my hair appears healthier when it is dark. I recommend using hair dye as sparingly as possible, and when you do use it, I would not try to find the cheap way out, especially if you are going blonde or lighter. Dying your hair has many effects on the condition of your hair.
I also rarely use heat on my hair. I am not one to regularly style my hair. For school, I would rather sleep-in an extra twenty minutes and put my hair in a bun or ponytail. I do not know how to use a curling iron, but occasionally, I would straighten my hair for events, like prom and homecoming, or photoshoots with my friends. Keeping your hair natural also keeps it healthy because it is not affected by heat damage. If you are not happy with your natural hair there was ways to go around it. For example, I have a friend with extremely curly hair, which she is not too fond of, so she gets keratin treatments to straighten her hair. I personally have wavy hair that tends to frizz. I have learned that in order to keep the frizz at bay, I need to brush out my hair 10-15 minutes after I shower. Paying attention to your hair type and what works best for you can help style your hair naturally and beautifully.
During the peak of my hair journey, I started to use hair supplements. I am by no means an expert, but I thought my experience might provide some insight. I have tried almost all of them on the market, and I still use some to this day. The first gummy I turned to was Sugar Bear Hair. You have probably seem them in Instagram because they work with a lot of influencers. These blue gummies tasted amazing, and I did see results in my hair. However, this brand is little bit pricier than others. For a one month supply, it is $30. The supplements did wonders for my hair, but I personally did not have the budget for them. If you do, I recommend them!

Next, I turned to simple Collagen supplements. I bought these at Walgreens fairly cheap, and each bottle contains a good amount of pills. Collagen did not have as drastic off any effect as the combination gummies for me; however, when my mom used them, she saw major effects on her hair and nail health. Sometimes, it takes trial and error to see exactly what works for your body.

Finally, this year I have tried two different brands with almost identical formulas. The only difference is the price. First, I tried Nature's Bounty Optimal Solution Hair, Skin and Nails gummy. I purchased these at Target. I would like to say that these gummies taste amazing! If they were not filled with vitamins and supplements, I would snack on them. The brand of gummies I use today is very similar to Nature's Bounty, and they are called Nature Made Hair, Skin, Nails gummies. These do not taste as good as the other brand, but I find that the ingredients are also more natural. Nature Made is also cheaper ($9.99) than Nature's Bounty ($14.29). I recommend switching brands of supplements every now and then, or starting and stopping usage to help see better effects.

These steps had the biggest effect on the health of my hair, along with clean eating. Ultimately, what you put in your body shows on the outside. I hope you use some of this tips, and you get your beautiful healthy hair!
